The objective of this research is to know what are the internal challenges that are linked to the export development of family businesses in the metalworking sector in Metropolitan Lima from 2020 to 2023. For this objective, a literary review of the antecedents, the which subcategories were identified such as succession, professionalism, government and family protocol. The approach used is the qualitative method, which allows us to know the challenges that entrepreneurs take on to guarantee the growth and internationalization of their companies, linked to export development. 10 interviews were carried out with experts, the results showed that the challenges of succession, professionalism, corporate governance and family protocol constitute the main barriers faced by these companies, which reduces their ability to promote their export development and therefore reduces the capacity of reach international markets. It is concluded that family businesses in the metalworking sector in Metropolitan Lima have clearly identified two challenges, succession and professionalism, as challenges that they must assume in order to compete and, above all, at an international level, the challenge of corporate governance and family protocol is not known or It is not identified as a challenge that can guarantee the export development of companies.
