The problem of traffic congestion and the lack of an organized transportation system in the city of Lima are crowding the main thoroughfares such as the Evitamiento and Circunvalación roads. In view of this problem, the construction of the Lima Peripheral Ring Road is planned, which is intended to be a comprehensive solution to traffic congestion. In order to analyze the influence of the Ring Road, the study was segmented at the intersection between the Evitamiento and Las Palmeras avenues. This intersection was selected because along the Evitamiento road it is the only at-grade crossing where a left turn can be made, in addition to the high vehicular traffic that generates long queues and delays. In the study, a micro-simulation was carried out using Vissim software to represent the road network. The method followed was the collection of field data on different days, where vehicle capacity, queues, travel times and traffic light cycle, useful for the calibration and validation process, were collected. For the analysis, two scenarios are modeled using Vissim software. The first one will represent the current traffic situation on the Via de Evitamiento, while the second one will include the implementation of the Ring Road. Finally, the results obtained in both models are compared, including the new speeds and travel times of vehicles at the intersection. These were statistically studied by means of the null hypothesis test using the Randomization test program, to detect variability and help future research. Finally, it was obtained that, compared to the current design, the average speed would increase by 21%; stopped times would reduce by 35%, and travel delays by 35%, which would indicate that the vehicular flow would improve. However, restricting left turn would show further improvements.
