The objective of this research paper is to determine the macroeconomic variables that have an impact on the delinquency of loans to medium-sized companies in the Peruvian financial system in the period 2011-2022. For this purpose, a rigorous analysis of international and national literature is carried out, from which our exogenous variables such as employment, economic growth, the consumer price index (CPI), the real exchange rate (RER) and the Central Bank's reference interest rate are postulated. Likewise, we make use of a theoretical Bernanke-Binder model in which the central bank sets the short-term interest rate, which will help us to mathematically understand the impact of an interest rate shock on the credit delinquency rate of loans to medium-size companies. Subsequently, an econometric vector autoregressive model (SVAR) is used, which allows us to identify, analyze and explain the macroeconomic variables that influence the credit delinquency rate. Likewise, by means of impulse response functions, variance decomposition and Granger causality, we will seek to provide further support to the results. The results show that, in the presence of a positive shock to GDP, interest rate and employment rate, the delinquency rate for medium-sized companies responds negatively, the magnitude of the response varies according to the type of financial institution. On the other hand, when faced with positive shocks to variables such as the interest rate, CPI and RER, the result is not entirely predictable since each group of entities responds differently.
