With the arrival of the 21st century, the appearance of LGBTQIA+ themed audiovisual products on various streaming platforms is increasingly common; consequently, the translation of this type of production is more in demand and, therefore, currently translators must often face the challenges that this activity implies. One of these challenges could be related to the communicative functions that audiovisual texts present since it could be that these functions are central elements in this type of text and, therefore, any modification that is made to them when translating the audiovisual text could have an effect on the elements that make it up (such as its characters) and on the reception of them. For this reason, this research will analyze the influence of the treatment given to the communicative functions that build the identity of the characters in the Spanish dubbing and subtitling of the LGBTQIA+ series Heartstopper in the process of receiving the characters in both modalities. by young Peruvian viewers belonging to the LGBTQIA+ community. To achieve this objective, a qualitative methodology is proposed. By carrying out the analysis of audiovisual content, the contrastive analysis of the subtitled and dubbed version of the series, as well as two focus groups of approximately six people each; the necessary information will be collected regarding the perception of the audience belonging to the LGBTQIA+ community regarding the construction of the identity of the characters that is carried out in both modalities of translation that the LGBTQIA+ Heartstopper series presents.
