Background: Beliefs in general are controlled by a process of emotional regulation that allows people to manage their emotions for proper psychological functioning. Objective: the purpose of the study was to relate attitudinal beliefs about suicidal behavior and cognitive emotional regulation in young people from Lima. Method: the study is cross-sectional correlational, in which 174 young people aged 18 to 30 years (M=22, SD= 2.95) voluntarily participated, applying the Attitudinal Beliefs questionnaire about suicidal behavior and the cognitive emotional regulation questionnaire. Results: The dimension Legitimization of Suicide and Own suicide present positive correlations with Self-Blame, Rumination, Catastrophizing, and negative correlations with Positive Focusing and Positive Reinterpretation; Probably, the dimension Suicide in Terminally Ill presents positive correlations with Self-Blame, Rumination; and negatives with Positive Focusing and Positive Reinterpretation; the Moral Dimension of Suicide shows positive correlations with Positive Focusing and Positive Reinterpretation; and negative with Self-Blame and Rumination. Conclusion: Attitudinal beliefs about suicidal behavior are negatively and/or positively related to cognitive emotional regulation strategies.
