Throughout the years the plastic sector has had a continuous growth, generating an increase in productivity. However, in the MYPES there was a negative impact, due to the low level of productive efficiency. The present investigation has as a case study a MYPE of the sector in question. The analysis determined that the main reasons for the problem were high downtime due to breakdowns and excessive setup time. For this reason, a maintenance model is proposed based on the BPM, SMED tools and the autonomous and planned maintenance pillars of the TPM, which provided the following results: reduction of the MTTR from 5.33 hr to 2.63 hr, breakdown times from 36 hr at 14 hr per month and the setup time from 125.07 min to 52.61 min. Likewise, the level of satisfaction with the purchase of spare parts increased from 62% to 96%. Finally, after validation, it is concluded that it was possible to increase production efficiency from 44% to 69%.
