The incidence of cervical cancer remains high in our environment, and mortality also has an impact on our society, a strategy that allows us to deal with it is early diagnosis using cervical cytology, however it is not known in our country that prevalence of this screening tool exists on the population at risk. Objectives: To know the prevalence of intraepithelial lesions and the cervical cytology coverage in primary care centers together with the clinical demographic characteristics of the population that performed it. Material and methods: secondary source, results of cervical cytology of women between 30 and 49 years old in 2017 in primary care centers. Results: The coverage of cervical cytology was 5.08% per 100 women aged 30 to 49 years, the prevalence of low-grade intraepithelial lesions was 0.7% of the populations studied, the average age of the population was 36.85 years, more than half had finished secondary school, 90% had at least one child. 97.3% of cervical cytology results were negative for intraepithelial lesion or malignancy. Conclusions: We found a low prevalence of intraepithelial lesions and a low cervical cytology coverage, which indicates that amendments should be made or in any case change strategy to one that is more accessible, cheaper and has adequate acceptance by the population as the strategy “see and treat”.
