Objective: Identify which are the epidemiological clinical factors associated with poor adherence to antidiabetic treatment. Material and methods: A case-control study was conducted, with a sample size of 152 patients, who met the selection criteria, which were distributed in the groups, 76 patients with poor treatment adherence (cases) and 76 with good treatment adherence (controls), in the Hospital Apoyo II Sullana, period 2019, the Chi square test, T-student, Odds ratio was applied. Results: It was found that sex and age, degree of instruction do not significantly intervene in poor adherence to antidiabetic treatment. In addition, the average age of the population was 59.04 years (SD: 0.93). Regarding the clinical characteristics, it was found that both in the group of cases and controls they had a diagnostic time of more than 3 years. The diagnosis time greater than 3 years (p <0.01, OR 2.8 [1.22 - 7.12]) and the use of more 3 drugs per day (p <0.01, OR 2.5 [1.14-561]) intervened significantly (p <0.05) in poor adherence to antidiabetic treatment. While comorbidities were not statistically significant. Conclusions: In patients with clinical symptoms of type II diabetes mellitus with poor adherence to treatment, they are 2.8 times more frequent in patients with more than 3 years of illness and 2.5 times more frequent in patients with more than 3 drugs per day. Age, gender, degree of instruction and comorbidities are not factors associated with poor therapeutic adherence.
