This research is the product of a doctrinal, regulatory and jurisprudential analysis, at the national and international level; reveals the contradiction of national norms with supranational norms; Such antinomy is noted between the criminal norm contained in article 29 of the Penal Code that regulates life imprisonment as a custodial sentence; the constitutional norm prescribed in article 1 of the Political Constitution of the State and the Supranational Norms, contained in the American Convention on Human Rights, Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishments and other conventions on Rights Human Rights, which prescribe in their articles acts that must be considered torture, the measures to prevent these acts of torture, the right to personal integrity, the protection of honor and human dignity. The general objective of the investigation is: to determine whether life imprisonment as an indeterminate sentence in time affects the dignity of the convicted person as a human person, according to national and supranational norms. To achieve this objective, various study methods were used, including the dogmatic, hermeneutic, historical and logical methods, which allowed for a broad analysis of the subject matter of the study; In addition to this, the interviews carried out with specialists from the Superior Court of Justice of La Libertad, the Public Ministry and professionals who are experts in the science of Law. This methodology allowed us to conclude that life imprisonment as an indeterminate sentence in time affects the dignity of the convicted person as a human person; by degrading the human and natural essence of the convicted person and preventing his reintegration, generating an evident National and Supranational Regulatory conflict. Finally, the development of the research work allows us to reach concrete results, which will surely lead to a discussion if the applicability of life imprisonment in Peru is coherent; That is, if it is pertinent to keep the provisions of article 29 of the Penal Code in force in its entirety or if it should be modified. For our part, we consider its modification necessary to eliminate the timelessness of the penalty, since it is contrary to human dignity recognized in Article 1 of the Political Constitution of the State and in the Supranational Norms, such as those cited above. viii We hope that this research is a small contribution; in order to start a debate to solve the paradox in our legal system regarding the sentencing system
