Objective: Determine if there are differences in maternal morbidity and mortality between patients undergoing emergency cesarean section versus those undergoing elective cesarean section at the Trujillo’s Belen Hospital in 2022. Material and methods: Analytical, observational, retrospective, cohort study. The population was made up of 114 pregnant women exposed to emergency cesarean section and 114 pregnant women exposed to elective cesarean section. The statistical analysis was performed with the Chi Square (X2) considering significance if chance is <5% (p < 0.05) and T Student. Results: Morbidity was identified in 73.7% of pregnant women undergoing emergency cesarean section and in 55.3% of women undergoing elective cesarean section (p=0.004). No maternal deaths were recorded in this series. On the other hand, it was evident that anemia (p=0.004) was the most common complication in both groups with predominance in the emergency cesarean section. The main indications for the emergency cesarean section were previous cesarean (18.4%) premature rupture of membranes (15.8%), severe preeclampsia (14.9%) and oligohydramnios (14.0%). In the elective cesarean section, the main indication was previous cesarean (75.4%) Conclusion: There is more maternal morbidity in patients undergoing emergency cesarean section than those undergoing elective cesarean section
