The nutritional risk in patients admitted to the ICU is a health problem and several can be measured by scoring. In this study we will evaluate the association between nutritional risk and the presence of pneumonia associated with mechanical ventilation. OBJECTIVE: To determine the effect of nutritional risk in the presence of pneumonia associated with mechanical ventilation. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Analytical cross-sectional study, with a sample of 334 patients admitted to the ICU. The nutritional risk was determined through the modified NUTRIC SCORE. Descriptive and analytical statistics were established. RESULTS: Of a total of 334 patients, 161 had high nutritional risk. The mean age of the patients who presented pneumonia associated with mechanical ventilation and those who did not present was (52.43 ± 19.32 vs 49.20 ± 18.78, p = 0.13). The proportion of patients with high nutritional risk who presented pneumonia associated with mechanical ventilation was greater than those who did not present (55.72% vs 36.84%, p = 0.001). CONCLUSION: The high nutritional risk has an effect in the presence of pneumonia associated with mechanical ventilation.
