Background: Nowadays pharmaceutical industry doesn’t have new drugs on the market. Considerable research work has been undertaken to the search of new active substances in natural products this is the case of Laurus nobilis (laurel). Objective: To demonstrate the in vitro antibacterial effect of Laurus nobilis “laurel” essential oil on Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Materials and method: In vitro experimental investigation, for which strain of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 was used, this infections have become a big challenge due to the resistance developed by the pathogens to a big number of widely used drugs , unfortunately at this time the strain was in the stump’s cultivation of the National University of Trujillo’s Medical School at the Microbiological department. Results: The antibacterial effect of Laurus nobilis “laurel” essential oil on Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 was demonstrated, for which the research was made with three concentrations 25%, 50%, and 100%. The Laurus nobilis (laurel) essential oil has in vitro antibacterial effect on Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Based on the results obtained in the investigation, aura inhibitors obtained with the concentration of 100% had a media of 15.1 mm compared to the Duraffourd scale Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 is too sensitive for this concentration, as well as aura inhibitors obtained with the concentration of 50% had a media of 10.1 mm compared to the Duraffourd scale Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 is sensitive to this concentration, while aura inhibitors obtained with the concentration of 25% had a media of 5.1 mm compared to the Duraffourd scale this is null. In conclusion, it does exist in vitro antibacterial effect of the Laurus nobilis “laurel” essential oil on Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923.
