This study was conducted in order to determine the relationship between the role of nurse aid and stress level of the primary caregiver of the elderly dependent. Research study descriptive, correlational cross-sectional; was conducted in 44 primary caregivers of dependent older adults hospitalized in the medicine service Bethlehem Hospital of Trujillo, during the months of November 2013 -. February 2014 The ratio of support patient was assessed with the role instrument support nurse perceived by the primary caregiver and developed by Arribasplata Esparza, modified by the authors based on CHALIFOUR (1994). To measure the stress level of the primary caregiver the instrument developed by Dr. E. Slipak was used. (2007) and modified by the authors. The results showed that 50% of primary carers had regular level in the role of nurse aid, 41% good level and 9% bad level; also found that in relation to the stress level of the primary caregiver's 66% scored high stress, 34% medium level of stress, while no caregiver scored low stress. Demonstrating that the role of nurse aid is significantly related to the stress level of the primary caregiver, which is corraborado by chi square statistical test of independence of criteria, which gives us a value of p less than 0.05; ie is statistically significant.
