The objective of the research was to determine the solvent effect in vitro of the essential oil of lemon on unblocking root canals. 66 teeth to which underwent endodontic treatment using the Stepback technique divided randomly into two groups of 33 teeth, the group A lemon essential oil and the B group Xilodent administered were used, then they desobturaron with minimal apical to a depth of 4mm, with strawberries Peeso and Gates-Glidden forming a receptacle for the solvent pressure. 0.05 milliliters of solvent, leaving it on for 30 seconds, then proceed to desobturar with Hedstrom files were administered for 2 minutes, this procedure was repeated at 4, 6, 8 and 10 minutes. Comparing the dissolving effect of the essential oil of lemon with Xilodent no statistically significant differences at 2, 4, 6 and 10 min (p = 0.757 <0.05, p = 0.402 <0.05, p = 0.520 <0.05, p = is found 0.080> 0.05), respectively, but at 8 min (p = 0.006 <0.05), demonstrating that the essential oil of lemon has effect in vitro similar to Xilodent solvent unsealing of root canals.
