To determine if hydric overload is a risk factor for mortality on patients with acute pancreatitis in the Regional Teaching Hospital of Trujillo. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An observational, analytical, retrospective study was done of cases and check-ups, that evaluated 120 adult patients with a clinical chart on the medicine service at the Regional Teaching Hospital of Trujillo during the years 2013 to 2018, from which 40 patients correspond to the group of cases, while the remaining 80 patients correspond to the group of check-ups. The data from the patient’s clinical charts were taken and for the analysis of the results, the Chi Square Test by Pearson and t-Student was used, as well as the Odd Ratio measure. RESULTS: 18% (n=7) of the patients with severe acute pancreatitis that passed away presented hydric overload and 34% (n=27) of the patients that survived, presented hydric overload (p>0,05), the association between hydric overload and the mortality was not found. (ORc 0.42; IC 95%: 0.16 – 1.08; p>0.05). CONCLUSION: The hydric overload is not a risk factor for mortality on patients with severe acute pancreatitis at the Regional Teaching Hospital of Trujillo
