Objective: To determine if chronic renal failure is a factor associated with lower limb amputation in patients with diabetic foot who underwent femorotibial vascular bypass surgery. Material and Methods: an observational, retrospective, analytical case-control study was carried out, in which 56 clinical records of adult patients aged ≥ 18 years, diagnosed with diabetes mellitus 2 and diabetic foot from the Belen Hospital of Trujillo during the period January 2014 and July 2019, were selected by simple randomization and who also underwent femorotibial vascular bypass surgery. In the data analysis, the Chi-square test was used to determine the statistical significance of the association between the study variables, which were significant when p <0.05. Results: Chronic renal failure (OR: 6.3, 95% CI 1.5-25.7, p: 0.007), age ≥ 65 years (OR: 3.4, 95% CI 1-11.7, p: 0.042), time of diabetes disease ≥ 15 years (OR: 7.2, 95% CI 1.7-29.6, p: 0.003), glycated hemoglobin ≥ 8% (OR: 7.7, 95% CI 2.3-25.7, p: 0.0), high blood pressure (OR: 5.2, IC95 % 1.4-18.9, p: 0.009) were significantly associated with lower limb amputation in the bivariate analysis. In the multivariate analysis, chronic renal failure (OR: 6.9, 95% CI 1-46.1, p: 0.48), age ≥ 65 years (OR: 5.9, 95% CI 1.3-32.9, p: 0.044) and hemoglobin glycosylated ≥ 8% (OR: 13.4, 95% CI 1.3-132.9, p: 0.27) remained associated. Conclusions: Chronic renal failure, age ≥ 65 years, glycated hemoglobin ≥ 8% are risk factors for lower limb amputation in patients with diabetic foot and femorotibial shunt.
