In the area of e-commerce, electronic transactions have taken center stage throughout the world; however, in Latin America, specifically, Peru, technology developments remain below average. On the other hand, countries such as Brazil, Mexico, Chile and Argentina, are above average, Brazil being the leader of the region. If referring to projections, Peru would be one of those that would have the greatest growth in the upcoming years, placing itself evenly with the other Latin American countries. On the one hand, e-commerce offers customers a simpler way to make purchases from the comfort of the home with a high elective variety of products, online offers, and possibly buying in foreign retailers, among others. However, in spite of all benefits provided to consumers, there is still a lack of confidence in online transactions related to fear of fraud because of the lack of legislation to protect consumers; because of this, the conventional channel remains the preferred option for consumers. The implementation of e-commerce in a company means reductions of fixed costs, better outreach to global clients, elimination of barriers such as time and space, greater interaction with their clients, among many other advantages. However, in Peru, many entrepreneurs have a misconception about commercial transactions over the Internet, thus, choosing the conventional, non-online method. Finally, the objective of this thesis is to know the main reasons for rejection of electronic commerce in Peru and how the Chilean model could help boost the national market, making this model more appealing for the benefit of consumers and companies.
