The present study focuses on China's foreign investment in Peru and examines the impact of two key variables: natural resource endowment and political risk. Peru, as a leading mineral producer and affected by recent political crises, provides a relevant context. Although Chinese investment has significantly increased in recent years, it has evolved from traditionally targeting mining sectors to areas such as transportation and energy. By utilizing empirical studies for Latin America and the experience of Chinese investments in Peru, we evaluate the effect of these variables on Chinese investment to understand the true influence of both factors on the growth of this investment. The results indicate that Chinese investment in Peru, in recent years, is not determined exclusively by its natural resources, and political risk has not deterred investments. These findings offer important insights into the dynamics of foreign investment in Peru and can inform future policies and strategies.
