This Professional Sufficiency Project focuses on the development of a “Spare Parts Inventory Planning Model for the Recolsa Company”. The main input used in maintenance and repair services is spare parts for heavy machinery. Although these services generate greater profitability for the company, there are no indicators or purchase planning to improve performance in the supply chain. This is explained by the absence of a stock policy, as the purchase of spare parts is mainly done when the order is accepted, without considering the potential risk of cancellation of the service by the client. The results of the diagnostic stage showed that there is an imbalance between the spare parts with the highest and lowest turnover, both in terms of units and cost, which has a negative impact on Recolsa´s sales. Therefore, the work aims to improve the current level lof sales based on an inventory planning model that allows for a greater control and visibility of the status of spare parts and on which certain actions can be taken to transform opportunities into requests met in the medium and long term. Based on the theoretical basis, a series of steps have been developed to build the model, using criteria to classify spare parts items into families assigned by their nature and then analysed based on the Kraljic matrix. The families with the highest business impact and supply risk were grouped and selected to determine the demand forecast. Finally, inventory indicators were calculated for the projected items, such as ordering points, optimal quantities each time replenishment is required, safety stock, relevant total cost, among others. After the respective economic analysis, it was found that by implementing the new inventory model under a continuous system, savings were generated in terms of ordering and maintenance costs since not all spare parts items are included in the projections as they do not meet the criteria considered in the proposal. It is also evident that the rotation levels for each spare part family have a better performance compared to the period analysed. Finally, it is shown that, based on the results, the level of sales that initially represented 23% (Sales of USD 1,254M) increases to 40% (Sales of USD 2,143M). With these results, the recommendation is made to implement the proposal to obtain savings in certain ítems, as well as to boost the sales of business.
