The present study examines the relationship between self-esteem and bullying in adolescents in 4th and 5th grade of secondary school in an educational institution in Iquitos. Through a detailed analysis, significant patterns and associations were identified, revealing that, although 66.7% of adolescents in 4th secondary and 60.6% in 5th secondary present medium levels of self-esteem, a worrying percentage of 22.7% (4th) and 13.6% (5th) register low levels of self-esteem. This underscores the importance of addressing the impact of bullying on the mental health of young people. The research also points out how different types of mistreatment, such as physical, psychological, social and verbal, correlate with adolescents' self-esteem. The statistically significant relationship between the level of self-esteem and physical (p=2.531 x 10-8), psychological (p=0.000226), social (p=0.00339) and verbal (p=7.095x10- 6) maltreatment suggests that these negative experiences can influence adolescents' self-esteem. Furthermore, it is highlighted that the dynamics vary according to school year. While in 4th high school low self-esteem prevails compared to high self-esteem, in 5th high school, the number of students with high self-esteem outnumbers those with low self-esteem. These results point to the urgent need for preventive and supportive interventions in the educational environment in Iquitos. Awareness of the importance of mental health in the school context is vital to forging a safe and healthy environment in which young people can thrive. The results highlight the need for concrete actions to ensure an educational environment that fosters emotional well-being and resilience of youth in the face of bullying and other challenges.
