This research aims to foster autonomy in university students that learn English as a second language. These students are adult learners who have work experience. Most of them have studied a previous career and are targeting to a second career more connected to their current field of work. This is intended to be done by showing them, they have the tools to acquire their own learning and that they are capable of doing it. At the same time to let them notice they are responsible of continuing their learning once they are not in a classroom. It’s the need of these times. Work, family, social life and personal interests push students to reshape their minds. Thus, all this requires students to embrace the idea of autonomy. Regarding the structure of this work, to start the definitions of learner autonomy will be presented. They’re the ultimate goal of this research. The next coherent step is investigating about Blended Learning and its implicancies to lead students to become autonomous. Finally, it is necessary to investigate about the use of portfolios and particularly the most adequate to promote learning autonomy in blended-learning contexts. Linked to this point, we have to analyse the role of the teacher concerning the reactions and experience of students recorded in the portfolios. To finalize, a discussion of the outcomes of this action research will be provided.
