The objective of the study was to determine the risk factors associated with low birth weight in puerperal women treated in the obstetrics-gynecology service of Moyobamba II-1 Hospital, between 2010 and 2016, the following was a quantitative, non-experimental, retrospective and cross section study, the design of cases and controls was used to determine the variable risk factors, the documentary review was used as a technique and the data collection card for the variables under study, risk factors and low birth weight as an instrument. For to quantify the presence and the magnitude of the risk factors associated with low birth weight in the puerperal, I used Odds Ratio, that to stand out the more times the risk of having one disease when exposed to the factor of interest, by comparison with those that are subject not exposed. Results: the demographic risk factors associated with low birth weight were: Multiple Pregnancy obstetric factors (OR = 10,217, CI = 2,887 - 36,158, p = 0,000), Congenital Anomalies Increase 8,406 times more the probability of presenting low birth weight (OR = 8,406, CI = 1,762 - 40,109, p = 0,001), Inadequate Prenatal Control (OR = 4,373, CI = 2,576 - 7,424, p = 0,000), Alcohol Consumption Stands Out (OR = 3,281, CI = 2,840-3,791, p = 0,000) (p <0.05), Arterial Hypertension, (OR = 3.075, CI = 1.427 - 6.627, 0.003) (p <0.05), Highlights the Body Mass Index of less than 30 (OR = 2.675, CI = 0.976-7.333, p = 0.048) and Maternal Overweight (≤ 25.6 kg / m2 to 28.6 kg / m2) ( OR = 2.562, CI = 1.037-6.330, p = 0.035) In conclusion, the risk factors associated with low birth weight are: Multiple Pregnancy obstetric factors, Congenital Anomalies, Inadequate Prenatal Control, Alcohol Consumption Stands Out, Arterial Hypertension, Highlights the Body Mass Index of less than 30 and Maternal Overweight.
