The objective of this research was to determine the relationship between Self-esteem and Academic Performance in students of a public educational institution in the San Isidro District of Metropolitan Lima, 2021. The quantitative approach, non-experimental design and correlational type were taken into consideration; Applying as instruments, the "Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale" (Rosenberg, 1965), adapted in Peru by Ventura (2018), and the bimonthly grade report. The population were students between eighth and tenth grade in high school of a public educational institution and had a non-probabilistic sample of 247 students. Likewise, one of the limitations that appeared in the work was the disproportion of the number of participants, having complications with the school’s management of the schedules. On the other hand, the different criteria used by teachers for recording grades were evidenced. To find the results, the Spearman correlation process was carried out, obtaining as a result a low significant correlation (.393) between self-esteem and the students’ academic performance. It was concluded that a better self-esteem will increase the academic performance of students. A limitation that we have in our study was the school scheduled and the disproportion in the student’s amount, plus, we could analyze the academy and emotional situation of the Peruvian reality, so, it helps us to design strategies.
