Objective: To determine the association of depressive symptoms and medication abuse in ambulatory adult patients with chronic migraine at the SANNA / Sánchez Ferrer Clinic, Trujillo, Peru. Materials and Methods: An analytical cross-sectional study was carried out; with a sample of 65 adult patients with chronic migraine with and without medication abuse attended in the outpatient clinic of the SANNA / Sánchez Ferrer Clinic in the city of Trujillo between February 2018 and April 2019. In the Univariate analysis, it was reported descriptive presentation for Quantitative variables: mean / standard deviation (SD) and for categorical variables; frequencies and percentages. In the bivariate analysis, cross-tabulations were presented to report the distribution of depressive symptoms and medication abuse, reporting it through rows. In the multivariate analysis with the purpose of verifying the association of drug abuse and depressive symptoms in order to indicate Odds ratios (OR). The variables depressive symptoms and drug abuse reported a significant association with p <0.05. Results: The average age of migraine patients was 36.6 ± 9.81 years. It was a predominantly female sample 65 (90.7%), 39 (60%) are married, 52 are higher education (80%), report working as employees of some institution or company 34 (52.3%), have a history Migraine relatives 44 (73.3%). Likewise, the majority of patients who abuse drugs in 51 (78.5%) and had depressive symptoms 54 (80%) report; also, they showed to have significant association both variables X ^ 2 = 4.48; p-value = 0.034. It was reported that patients with chronic migraine who abuse drugs are 10.62 times more likely to suffer from depressive symptoms compared to those who do not abuse drugs (OR = 10.622, p = 0.012). Conclusions: It is concluded that depression is associated with the abuse of medications in patients with chronic migraine.
