Objective: To determine the frequency of chronic malnutrition in patients under 5 years of age with community-acquired pneumonia in two hospitals in Lima (Hospital Santa Rosa and Hospital María Auxiliadora) during the period January 2019 - January 2020. Methods: Observational study cross-sectional analysis. Pediatric patients under 5 years of age from hospitals in Lima were included during the period January 2019 - January 2020, considering that the patients had to receive outpatient and/or hospital treatment for community-acquired pneumonia. The study had a sample of 548 medical records, of which 423 participants had a diagnosis of community-acquired pneumonia. Results: From the 423 participants who were diagnosed with community-acquired pneumonia, they had a frequency of 75.18% in adequate height for age and 8.51% in growth retardation or chronic malnutrition and severe chronic malnutrition. Conclusions: The certainty of diagnosis of community-acquired pneumonia was 77.19% in children under 5 years of age treated as hospitalized or initially managed for community-acquired pneumonia in two hospitals in Lima during a period of 13 months. Of the 423 participants, 8.51% had growth retardation or chronic malnutrition and severe malnutrition. Inferring that children under 5 years of age treated in 2 hospitals in Lima during January 2019 - January 2020 with community-acquired pneumonia are not as malnourished compared to those of appropriate size for their age.
