In the development of this research, it was evaluated whether the leukocytosis presented by a percentage of the patients with tuberculosis at the Manuel Barreto Maternal and Child Center in Lima-Peru is favorable or not in the final result of the treatment. The hemograms with the date closest to the diagnosis of each patient were taken into account. In the future, it could be possible to include the hematological parameter as a test to evaluate the prognosis of the disease according to the response to treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis. Objective: This study evaluated whether there was an association between leukocytosis and an unfavorable outcome in treatment in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis at the Manuel Barreto Maternal and Child Center. Material and Methods: Retrospective analytical observational cohort study between 2015-2021, at the Manuel Barreto Maternal and Child Center. The information of the population studied was collected from the registry of the medical records of the health center. Results: Between the years 2015 and 2021, the 178 patients in the study recorded a favorable treatment outcome of 51.12%. Most patients were sensitive to antituberculosis medication (76.40%). Only 29.78% of the total presented leukocytosis. In the bivariate analysis, an association was found between the unfavorable treatment outcome and harmful habits (42.86% vs 57.14%; p=0.037); in the same way for sensitivity to drugs, both resistance to them (33.33% vs 66.67%; p:0.008), and non-resistance (56.62% vs 43.48%; p=0.008). In the multivariate analysis, it was evidenced that 3-cross smear microscopy of patients increases the probability of an unfavorable treatment result by 49% and having completed secondary education reduces the probability of an unfavorable result by 50%. Conclusions: No significant association was found between the leukocytosis of the patients and the unfavorable outcome of the treatment.
