The present research was carried out at the Humberto Luna school in the city of Calca, in the academic period of 2019, the population was comprised of students from 2 grade of secondary school, the sample consisted of 178 students. In that institution, high levels of depression were previously detected through a pilot test; there were also cases of family environment conflict, abandonment and neglect reported by the teaching and administrative staff of the house of studies. The objective of this research was knowing the family environment and depression in this population; also identify levels of family environment and levels of depression, as well as their distribution by grades of secondary education. Depression can have multiple causes and be influenced by multiple factors; there is evidence that the family environment can influence the origin and/or maintenance of this disease; To explore the existence of this correlation, we conducted a nonexperimental cross-sectional investigation with a stratified and probability sample. The results were: It was found a Spearman correlation coefficient of - 0.188, also it was found that 5% of students have family environment levels below the average and 21% have some level of depression. Each of the dimensions of family environment have a weak and inverse correlation with depression; we found that the 3rd grade of secondary school presents the highest percentage in cases of family environment deficit and depression levels. It is concluded that there is a weak and inverse correlation between the variables studied. nd th to 5
