The present research work that had as its objective to determine the nutritional status of children attending the initial level, where the study was descriptive transversal in which the study population consisted of 134 children which were distributed in 6 classrooms according to ages, obtaining a sample of 98 children to apply the probability sampling by using the formula for finite populations, where in order to distribute the sample, we used the method by affixation of assessments to determine the number of children that will be studied by classroom in the same way our was divided into two groups in order to be able to perform a nutritional assessment; the first was for children < 5 years which were evaluated with indicators of P/E, T/E, P/T and the second for children >5 that were evaluated with the IMC which determined their nutritional status, the instrument used was the interview and a form of data collection for the anthropometric assessment. The results found on the general characteristics show that the age of the children of 3, 4 and 5 years are proportionally similar where more than half of the children are female. In assessing the nutritional status of children who are attending the initial level was determined using the primer to control growth and development that evaluates indicators of P/E, T/E, P/T for children 5 years of age who were evaluated according to the BMI tables are found that more than one-fifth of the children are within the normal parameters at the same time the seventh part includes tables of overweight and obesity pose a health risk of the child any kind of bad nutrition.
