ABSTRACT This research studied the relationship between financial literacy in the use of credit cards with the level of indebtedness of users of a financial institution of Cajamarca 2016, where the next problem arises: How financial literacy is related in the use of credit cards with the debt level of the users of a financial institution in the city of Cajamarca in 2016?, for which the following hypothesis is proposed: Yes, there is a significant relationship between financial literacy in the use of credit cards with the debt level of the users of a financial institution in the city of Cajamarca in 2016. The research methodology used was non-experimental and correlational. The research was carried out with the application of a survey with 24 items of which 04 were oriented to the general information of credit card users. For the first variable of financial literacy survey counted 10 items and for the second variable level of indebtedness; which gained 0.76% reliability and validity was through the judgment of experts with 24 items of which 04 were oriented to the general information of credit card users; 10 the first items data for the first variable of financial literacy and last 10 items collected information for the second variable debt level was obtained. Subsequently, the survey was applied to a given sample of a financial institution in the city of Cajamarca. Once achieved the desired information, they were subjected to statistical SPSS program, obtaining a final result, with a significance level of 0.05. The results show, according to statistics chi-square test of pearson that there is a significant relationship between the study variables, ie that there is a considerable lack of financial literacy in the use of credit cards, raising the level of indebtedness of users a financial institution in the city of Cajamarca in 2016. Therefore, it is summarized that greater financial literacy in the use of credit cards there would be a lower level of debt. KEYWORDS: financial literacy, level of indebtedness, credit cards.
