In the present work, a knowledge management model (GESCON) is proposed, generally applicable in educational institutions, and particularly at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM), considering its chief mission is identified with the creation, use and spreading of knowledge. The purpose is to evaluate both intellectual capital and organizational learning, and let this latter, in turn, improve organizational performance, with the resources made available to the university. In order to determine the causality relationship among intellectual capital, organizational learning and organizational performance, the structural equation model was applied to data collected through a survey to 148 professors of the UNMSM. The research results show that intellectual capital and its elements, particularly University human capital and relational capital, have a positive value in organizational learning, including the generation of storage (stocks) and knowledge flows, while structural capital does not. Undoubtedly, the existence of stocks and knowledge flows do allow affirmative action from the university. The study ends with the finding that organizational learning increases economic and noneconomic results and is determined by the knowledge stocks existing in the individual, group and the organization itself and by the flows of creation, assimilation, use and spreading of knowledge. These elements make possible the implementation of knowledge management initiatives in an educational institution within a dynamic environment and with demanding markets of our country’s current and future economy. Key Words: Organizational learning. Intellectual capital. Knowledge management.
