The study examined the influence of induced task’s goal orientation in the outputs of teamwork of college students, assessed through team commitment scale, team membership satisfaction scale and task’s achievement. The research consisted in an experiment, in which goal orientations were induced through differentiated task instructions to each of three groups: one with learning approach orientation, the second group received performance orientation instructions and the third one performance avoidance instructions. A forth group was the control group that did not receive any goal orientation in the instructions. It was expected that the group with the learning orientation task induction would have the best results in each of the teamwork outputs, in comparison to the control group and the avoidance orientation induction group. It was predicted that team with avoidance orientation task instructions would have the worst outcomes. Results showed that the members of the learning orientation task group showed better team commitment scores and higher levels of satisfaction with their team members, compared to the other three groups. On the other side, members of the avoidance performance orientation task instructions group showed lower general outcomes: lower satisfaction with team members and lower team commitment scores, as well as, poorer task achievement. In addition, members of the approach performance orientation group showed better task achievement. Theoretical and future research implications of these results are discussed in this study.
