This study explores the differences in values and political ideology between vegetarian and non-vegetarian students in Lima (N= 100). To study the political ideology, we used the Social Dominance Orientation scale (SDO) and the Right Wing Authoritarianism scale (RWA); to study the values, the Schwartz scale was used, and also a Food Choice Questionnaire. Vegetarians have higher values in Universalism (Mdnveg = 5.67, Mdnomni = 5.00), while non-vegetarians have higher values in SDO (Mdnveg = 1.63; Mdnomni = 2.00). These differences remain the same when comparing by sex. In conclusion, the belief in the superiority of certain social groups transcends the social area and extends to the relation between humans and nature. Finally, the consideration of all people and nature is also related to the decision of rejecting the consumption of meat as a moral principle.
