The purpose of this research is to determine the relationship between alcohol abuse and academic stress in students from the early years of the faculties of letters and science at a private university in Lima. We also compared the characteristics of alcohol consumption of students according to their faculty of origin (sciences and letters) and described the characteristics of alcohol consumption and academic stress that accompanied them. Two instruments were applied to a group of 175 participants with an age range between 16 and 24 years. For this purpose the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) (Babor, Higgins-Biddle, Saunders, Monteiro, 2007) have been used to distinguish low-risk drinkers of harmful drinkers and also SISCO Inventory of Academic Stress (Barraza, 2007a), to explore academic stress. For these objectives the following statistical analyzes were applied: correlations, mean comparisons and descriptive statistics. It was found that a relationship exists between alcohol consumption in the form of Binge Drinking and academic stress in women, compared to previous researches, an important increase in alcohol consumption in general (85.10 %) and also in the form of Binge Drinking (58.90 %) was found. Finally, there is also a large part of the participants who suffer from academic stress and its manifestations
